The Perfection Machining Company was founded in 1964 to design and manufacture replacement parts for the mining industry.   Renamed Permco 4 years later, the family-owned business developed a wide array of replacement hydraulic parts and eventually expanded its manufacturing capabilities to include cast iron parts and the resulting complete units.

Today, we maintain our focus on customer service and continue a decades-long tradition of developing fluid power systems that meet each of our customer’s specific needs. Flow Divider and Intensifiers

Flow dividers are used to maintain consistent flow rates in different legs of a hydraulic system regardless of the pressure in each circuit. They can also be used for intensification, to operate a component at a higher pressure than the current system supplies.

The two devices discussed in this brochure are typically constructed of the same components. It is only through their placement in a hydraulic system that one may discern whether the device is a flow divider or an intensifier.

A flow divider accepts flow and then internally divides or combines it. This division may be equal (such as 50 GPM being divided into 25 GPM and 25 GPM) or unequal (such as 50 GPM being divided into 12.5 GPM and 37.5 GPM). In turn, this device may have more than two (2) outlet ports whereby inlet flow may be divided by three (3) (such as 60 GPM being divided into three (3) equal outputs) or more. Almost any type of division of inlet flow can be achieved by selecting the correct number of gears and correct gear width.

Rotary intensifiers on the other hand divide flow to increase pressure. This enables part of the hydraulic system to work at pressure higher than the relief valve setting at the pump. Since the two devices are really one in the same, the flow dividers described above may become intensifiers. Relief valves downstream of the intensifiers are recommended.

By using these devices, you may simplify circuitry, increase the life of components and thereby reduce cost. The following describes the function and application of the FD2100/3000/3100, FD5000/5100 & FD7500/7600 flow dividers which are assembled using Permco service proven gear pump components.

FUNCTION:

Flow dividers are components in a hydraulic circuit which work only when needed and only to the extent required. Their job function is to accept flow and divide it (equally or unequally) or to combine flow in the reverse direction. They function by the principle that input fluid horsepower equals output fluid horsepower, minus the small inefficiency of the flow divider itself.

In rotary intensifiers, one of the output ports operates at a lower pressure than inlet. This
gear section of the intensifier (or flow divider) now acts as a motor providing power through the connecting shaft to the other gear sections. To reiterate, with one outlet of a two (2) section device operating at a lower pressure than inlet, the outlet can perform against a pressure higher than inlet, thus providing the intensifier function of the unit.

Both rotary flow dividers and intensifiers divide flow and distribute pressure according to the individual system requirements. The total output flow of the component is equal to its inlet flow. The output of each section is directly proportional to the gear width of the section.

FILTERS

A series of spin-on filters are accessorized with a selection of adapters/heads for a variety of applications. Indicators, gage ports and by-pass valves are available to customize each application. Hydraulic fluids are efficiently filtered through return line applications. Maximum working pressure 100 PSI/Burst 300 PSI.

FLOW METER

Permco’s mechanical hydraulic tester provides the ideal solution for servicing and commissioning hydraulic circuits on agricultural, as well as on and off road mobile equipment. The kit comprises of a direct acting flow indicator with built in thermometer, a loading valve and a pressure gauge all built into a strong steel case with a removable lid.

The unit is self contained and requires no electrical power. The dials are clear and easy to read. Installation is extremely simple and the test kit can be connected to pressure, working or return lines. The loading valve and pressure gauge allow a progressive build up of system pressure in complete safety. The test kit provides the service engineer with quick, accurate and simple performance testing of pumps, motors, valves, steering systems, cylinders and complete hydraulic circuits.

There are two main elements to the flow meter – the reverse flow indicator (RFI) and the load valve. The flow indicator block houses a metering piston which moves against a calibrated spring. The piston is magnetically coupled to a rotary pointer to provide a direct reading of flow on the dial, flow scale is displayed in both lpm and US gpm. The thermometer is also mounted in the flow block near the fluid flow. Both flow and temperature scales are shielded
behind impact resistant windows.

The load valve is connected directly to the flow block and a 420 bar (6000 psi) pressure gauge is mounted in the inlet section of the loading valve. The valve is easy to operate and, combined with the pressure gauge, allows sensitive and progressive control of system pressure throughout the working range.
