TE Connectivity‘s new range of inserts for heavy-duty connectors complies with the EN45545 European standard on flame retardancy for materials and products in railway rolling stock. The new inserts from TE meet the R22 and R23 requirements set on level HL3. They have an operating temperature range that extends from -40 to 125 degrees Celsius. The modular inserts provide customers with a high level of flexibility when configuring railway connector systems. They can be configured to hold anywhere from 1 to 216 pins and enable signal, data, and power to be transmitted via one single connector.

Rectangular Heavy Duty Connectors (HDC) are industrial connectors designed to transmit power, data, and signals in the toughest of conditions. In environments with vibrations, risk of dust, temperature challenges, and mechanical impact, our HDC connectors provide a reliable solution with solid aluminum or thermoplastic hoods and housings with protection degrees from IP65 up to IP69k.
Approved according to EN/IEC 61984 standards, our HDC connectors range from 10A to 650A and are available with up to 288 contacts.

A modular is one where power, signal, and data can be combined into a single connector rather than separate connections. The connector handles different signal types through the combination of different modules that the designer selects. Modules can also be used to accommodate nonelectrical media such as connections for airlines and fiber optics in the same device as electrical connections.
