The Magnetic flow meters are known as an electromagnetic flow meter or more commonly just called a mag meter.is very famous after the turbine flow meters and a positive displacement flow meter. A magnetic field is applied to the metering tube, which results in a potential difference proportional to the flow velocity perpendicular to the flux lines.
The magnetic Flowmeter is a volumetric flow meter that does not have any moving parts and is ideal for wastewater applications or any dirty liquid which is conductive or water-based. The magnetic Flowmeter will generally not work with hydrocarbons, distilled water, and many non-aqueous solutions). Magnetic flow meters are also ideal for applications where low-pressure drop and low maintenance are required.
Magnetic flowmeters use Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction to determine the flow of liquid in a pipe. In a magnetic flow meter, a magnetic field is generated and channeled into the liquid flowing through the pipe. Following Faraday’s Law, the flow of a conductive liquid through the magnetic field will cause a voltage signal to be sensed by electrodes located on the flow tube walls.
When the fluid moves faster, more voltage is generated. Faraday’s Law states that the voltage generated is proportional to the movement of the flowing liquid. The electronic transmitter processes the voltage signal to determine the liquid flow.
There are some specific things to note when choosing electromagnetic flow meter are
- Is the fluid conductive or water-based?
- Is the fluid or slurry abrasive?
- Do you require an integral display or remote display?
- Do you require an analog output?
- What are the minimum and maximum flow rate for the flow meter?
- What are the minimum and maximum process pressure?
- What are the minimum and maximum process temperature?
- Is the fluid chemically compatible with the flow meter wetted parts?
- What is the size of the pipe?
- Is the pipe always full?
Kind of Electromagnetic Flow Meter :
iMAG Series Seametric Electromagnetic Flow Meter
The iMAG-Series is the most economical flanged electromagnetic flowmeter on the market. It is used in 3” to 12” pipe in municipal or industrial water, waste or reclaimed water, pump stations and packaged plant applications. The iMAG has no moving parts and electrodes are designed to discourage fouling. This magmeter requires read more

Insertion Electromagnetic Flowmeter
The Insertion Electromagnetic Flowmeter are adjustable depth insertion magnetic flowmeters that fit 3” to 48” pipe (up to 72” optional). The complete lack of moving parts of the EX800/100/200-Series is the source of its reliability. Brass and stainless steel models withstand a variety of temperatures, pressure, and chemical conditions. The EX-Series has no rotor to stop turning in dirty water and there are no bearings to wear out. read more

PE202 Magnetic Flow Meter
The PE202 magnetic flow meter is designed for low-flow chemical injection or difficult-to-meter applications with pulsating metering pumps in 3/4” to 1/4” pipe/tube. The housing is made of sturdy splashproof HDPE plastic. With no moving parts, the PE202 can handle fluids containing particulate matter without clogging or jamming, read more……
The FT500 Series Magnetic Flow Transmitter
The FT500-Series is a batching flow processor with additional output controls. It is designed for use with Seametrics flow meters and flow sensors, as well as other manufacturer’s products that have frequency output proportional to flow. In addition to batch functions, the FT500-Series indicates flow rate and other data in large 3/8” (9.66 mm) digits … read more
