Diaphragm Pump Function And Application

Diaphragm pumps are a type of Positive displacement pumps that use a combination of reciprocating treatments from rubber, thermoplastic or diaphragm Teflon. This type of pump is very suitable for use in the check valve for pumping fluid. This type of pump is often called the membrane pump.

Type of Diaphragm Pump

There are three types of diaphragm pumps :

  • The diaphragm pump has a diaphragm closed with one side in the liquid must be pumped, and the other with air or hydraulic fluid. The diaphragm is compressed or deflated, causing the pump room volume to increase (expand) and decrease. There is a pair of non-return valves to prevent backflow from the fluid.
  • The diaphragm pump uses volumetric positive displacement work, where the main drive of the electro-mechanical diaphragm, works by a crank or directed by motor rotation. Flexes This method diaphragms through simple mechanical action, and one side of the diaphragm that opens into the air.
  • The diaphragm pump uses work with one or more diaphragms with the liquid that will be pumped on both sides. The diaphragm (s) is again bent, causing the volume to change.

Material Types For membranes

Rubber diaphragms are formed with natural rubber and artificial additives to increase chemical diaphragm resistance and/or stretch characteristics. A nylon mesh fabric is positioned in the rubber diaphragm during the printing process to strengthen the diaphragm while stress-dispersing.

  • Neoprene : An excellent purpose general diaphragm for use in non-aggressive applications such as water-based slurries, well water or sea water. The exhibits are very good at life and low cost.
  • Buna-N : Great for applications involving oil / fluid-based petrol-based petrol such as fuel oil, hydraulic oil, kerosene, and turpentines motor oil.
  • EPDM : Good for use in applications that require very cold temperatures. EPDM Material is a low-cost alternative for being used dilute pump acid or caustics.
  • Viton ® : Good for use in applications that require very hot temperatures. It has used for aggressive liquids such as aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons and very aggressive acids.PT
  • FE :  usually used for aggressive fluids and better than Viton ®. In the application, It will be a prime choice for highly aggressive liquids.
  • PTFE : usually used for aggressive liquid and batter than  Viton ®. In the application, It will be a prime choice for highly aggressive

All-Flo pump

All-Flo is committed to the pursuit of designing and manufacturing the highest quality product available to the industry. Every diaphragm pump is performance engineered and quality built to provide trouble-free service under the toughest conditions.

ARO Pump

A favorite of process professionals everywhere- Ingersoll Rand / ARO Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps provide stall-free, ice-free operation in 3/8′ thru 3′ fluid ports. ARO has the most reliable pump line on the market.

Graco Husky Pump

The Husky air-operated pumps are loaded with features to help you get your job done right, every time, and are built to save you money.

Advantages of the Husky double diaphragm pumps

  • Rugged construction – Resists corrosion for reliable performance and long life
  • Designed to last – Heavy duty design offers long life, increased productivity and lower overall cost of ownership
  • Flow rates and sizes – up to 300 gpm (1135 lpm) / port sizes ranging from 1/4″ to 3″ in NPT, BSP, and flange options.
  • Easy maintenance – The Husky has fewer parts than industry peers, the complete air valve is externally accessible so it can be serviced fast and easy without removing the pump.
  • Modular air valve – Stall-free, low pulsation air valve provides smooth and rapid changeover for increased efficiency and minimizes downtime.

Marathon Pump

Warren Rupp, Inc., a Unit of IDEX Corporation, pioneered the design and manufacture of air-operated, double diaphragm pumps.  MARATHON diaphragm pumps are driven by compressed air.  The directional air distribution valve and pilot valve, referred to as the “air end,” are located in the center section of the pump. Liquid moves through two manifolds and outer chambers of the pump referred to as the “wet end”. Generally, check valves (ball-type or flap-type) are located at the top and bottom of each outer chamber or on a common manifold.

Sandpiper pump

Since 1965, SANDPIPER, a Warren Rupp, Inc. brand, has held a leading position in the air-operated double diaphragm (AODD) pump market with the broadest range of pump sizes, types, and models that meet the need in a vast array of applications

Verder air diaphragm pump

Verderair air operated double diaphragm pumps are suitable for handling a wide range of fluids and offer a smooth and reliable flow. Metallic and non-metallic materials are available.
