Tokyo Keiki UFL-30 Ultrasonic Clamp-on Flowmeter

General Information

The Tokyo Keiki UFL-30 clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter shall be a microprocessor-based instrument that uses transit-time (time of flight) difference method and providing an electronic output signal proportional to the flow of liquid in closed pipeline that is filled with liquid.

It shall consist of a main unit and transducer set connected by up to 300m [984.3 feet] of dedicated cable.

Transducers shall be clamped onto the outside of pipe. So clamp-on transducer is non-intrusive and non-invasive, there are no pressure losses in the pipe and no wear on the components of the flow meter. And also they can be installed rapidly, without cutting into the pipe and without process interruption.

The UFL-30 Series is a 6th generation system which offers higher accuracies and a wealth of functions.

Outline

  • Transit times of ultrasonic pulses transmitted in a liquid vary with the flow velocity of the liquid and ultrasonic flowmeters utilize this characteristic to measure flow.
  • Regardless of whether the liquid is electrically conductive or non-conductive, ultrasonic flowmeters can measure various types of liquids such as potable water, river water, industrial water, agricultural water, wastewater, seawater, and pure water.
  • Transducers are clamped on to the outside of the pipe so it is not necessary to cut pipes or stop flow for installation and there is no pressure loss.
  • Flow measurements are possible over a wide range, -30m/s to +30m/s.
  • Economical measurements of flow from 25mm to 6000mm can be obtained.
  • Easy Operation through PC configuration software. Through graphical user interface, it is very simple and useful for everyone to input all data.

UFL-30 Ultrasonic Clamp-on Flow Meter

Description

The UFL-30 boasts +/- 1% high accuracy readings in a compact configuration, half the size of our former model.
TOKYO KEIKI was the first company in the world to develop an ultrasonic flowmeter for general industry in 1963. In 2008, we completed development of a highly reliable ultrasonic flowmeter – the “UFL-30 Series” – using our wealth of accumulated know-how and the latest in hardware technology.

This flowmeter does not have a disconnection device which meets the relevant requirements of IEC
60947-1 and IEC 60947-3 for power line. Therefore, install a switch or circuit-breaker as the means for
disconnection of power line for AC power type of main unit to comply with EC directive.

Main Unit

  • Enclosure shall be IP65 rating of ingress protection.
  • Power supply shall be 100 ~ 230VAC +/-10% (50/60Hz +/-10%). DC24V +/-20% is available by option.
  • Power consumption shall be within 20 ~ 27VA by AC power supply, 10W by DC power.
  • Operating temperature shall be -10°C to 60°C (14°F to 140°F).
  • Input / Output , The main unit shall provide integral input / output interfaces with external instruments or computer systems.
    • Signal input of maximum four channels for multi-path measurement
    • Insulated 4-20mA current output (Allowable Load Resistance: 1k ohms max.)
    • Digital output by Modbus and/or ASCII format
    • Contact point output by photo coupler
  • Configuration
    • Flow meter configuration data shall be entered via a personal computer, Windows® software utility. No additional equipment shall be required.
    • Key entry shall be available to input basic parameters.
  • Measurements shall be made by Ultrasonic Pulse Transit Time Difference Method.
  • Measurement Cycle shall be 60 millisecond.
  • Weight of main unit shall be approximately 8 kg. 

Transducer ( Ultrasonic clamp on sensor )

  • A pair of ultrasonic transducer functions as both transmitters and receivers alternately.
  • The transducer shall be IP67 rating of ingress protection.
  • The transducer shall have variety to operate on pipe sizes ranging from DN 25mm to 6000mm (1” to 240”). DN means Diameter Nominal.
    • Small-pipe transducers shall operate on pipe sizes from DN 25mm to 250mm (1” to 10”). Operating temperature shall cover -20°C to +65°C (-4°F to +149°F).
    • Small-pipe high temperature transducers shall operate on pipe sizes from DN 25mm to 250mm (1” to 10”). Operating temperature shall cover +60°C to +115°C (+140°F to +239°F).
    • Large-pipe transducers shall operate on pipe sizes from DN 300mm to 6000mm (12” to 240”). Operating temperature shall cover -20°C to +65°C (-4°F to +149°F).
    • Large-pipe high temperature transducers shall operate on pipe sizes from DN 300mm to 6000mm (12” to 240”). Operating temperature shall cover +60°C to +115°C (+140°F to +239°F).
  • The transducer shall have durable structure by metal housing.

Measuring Performance

  • Measuring range : –30 m/s to +30 m/s (-98.43 ft/s to +98.43 ft/s)
  • Range ability : 1 : 300
  • Measuring Accuracy of flow rate shall be as follows.
    • DN 25mm ~ 250mm (1” ~ 10”)
      • ± 1.0 % of reading at velocity ≥ 2 m/s (6.562 ft/s)
      • ± 0.02 m/s (± 0.06562 ft/s) at velocity < 2 m/s (6.562 ft/s)
    • DN 300mm ~ 6000mm (12” ~ 240”)
      • ± 1.0 % of reading at velocity ≥ 0.8 m/s (2.625 ft/s)
      • ± 0.008 m/s (± 0.02625 ft/s) at velocity < 0.8 m/s (2.625 ft/s)
  • Repeatability of flow rate measurement shall be ± 0.5%.
  • Maximum length of dedicated cable between main unit and transducer shall be 300m (984.3 feet). 

Indication

  • Display module shall be 16 character x 2lines LCD equipped backlit.
  • LCD shall display instantaneous flow rate, total flow rate, flow velocity, status and warnings.
  • Data display is configured by the user to display flow rate (7 digits), flow totalizing (7 digits), flow velocity (6 digits / 1mm/sec step).
  • Flow rate units and totalized units shall be selectable both metric and English. 

Functions

The following functions shall be provided:

  • The flow meter shall provide automatic Reynolds Number compensation.
  • The flow meter shall output flow rate,
  • The flow meter shall equip two ports of analog output for instantaneous flow rate.
  • The flow meter shall equip two RS-232C ports of digital output for forward / backward flow totalized value and various warnings. One is output to upper system by Modbus protocol, the other one is intercommunication-use to setup the flow meter.
  • The flow meter shall equip four ports of contact output for forward / backward flow totalized pulse and various warnings.
  • The flow meter shall equip maximum four measuring channels to function multi-path measurement that simultaneously measures along two or four different paths (diametrical axis) at the same point.
