Description of NGK Analyzer NAS Battery
The NAS battery was the first commercially available battery system with megawatt-level electric power storage, and it was a product of NGK’s exclusive advanced ceramic technologies. A high output of electric power for extended periods of time is made possible by the NAS battery system’s many excellent properties, which include huge capacity, high energy density, and long service life.

Releasedadvanced type of NAS battery “NAS MODEL L24”
For the international market, NGK introduced the “NAS MODEL L24,” an upgraded version of a traditional containerized NAS battery.
When compared to the typical design, NAS MODEL L24 enables projects to be executed with fewer NAS battery containers deployed throughout the course of the project and also results in less maintenance, which saves about 20% on the investment in battery storage systems.
Structure of NAS Energy Storage System
The simplest method for implementing an energy storage system with multiple megawatt hours
The capacity of the NAS battery system can be readily increased at one location or across multiple locations as needed. When combined with variable renewables for a clean solution, the NAS installation’s scalability to many 10s or 100s of MW over periods of 6 to 7 hours can postpone or eliminate some transmission, distribution, and generating investments. (At one location, the largest system is currently 50MW, 300MWh.) Compared to installing or updating transmission/distribution lines or substations, the construction leadtime is far shorter.

Container type unit
Standard 20-foot ocean freight containers serve as the foundation for the “Plug and Play” design of the NAS battery system. The containerized design reduces installation costs and speeds up shipment and installation.
Rated Output | DC1,000kW (max. power) DC5,800kWh (BOL) |
Configuration | Four container subunits, series connected. A subunit includes six NAS modules, each rated at DC41.7kW and DC245kWh. |
Dimension | 6.1W x 5.6D x 5.5H (m) |
Weight | 86 tonnes |
Released advanced type of NAS battery “NAS MODEL L24”
NAS MODEL L24
For the international market, NGK introduced the “NAS MODEL L24,” an upgraded form of traditional containerized NAS battery, in June 2024.
Because of less corrosion in the battery cells, the NAS MODEL L24 achieves a far lower deterioration rate of less than 1% annually while maintaining the fundamental performance attributes like output and capacity. Improved thermal control in battery modules, which permits a longer continuous discharge, is another technical accomplishment.
Compared to the traditional design, these new characteristics enable projects to be executed with fewer NAS battery containers placed over the course of the project and also result in less maintenance, which saves about 20% on the battery storage system cost.
