SPIRIG Semiconductor Industry founder is Ernest Spirig, established this company named DIPL. ING. ERNEST SPIRIG as a closely held private company on March 14th 1969 in Rapperswil, Canton St. Gall, Switzerland.
About SPIRIG Semiconductor Industry
In its very early times the company was engaged in consulting and development services for the emerging Semiconductor Industry, specializing in gold wire bonding technologies. There was a need for the development of stable hydrogen sources for the flame-off process for the gold wire ball bonding. Besides developing high precision mechanical regulator technology for bottled high pressure Hydrogen gas, this was also the origin of studying the water electrolysis process to create a clean just-in-time hydrogen source with a stable caloric output.
This basic work laid the foundation for the years later following engagement in the manufacture of patented, multi-cell Hydrogen / Oxygen generators used as stable heat sources for precision soft- and silver soldering, for precision brazing and welding, for precision annealing and hardening, for activation of adhesive layers and activation of surfaces to increase adherence of printing inks and adhesive coatings. From its beginning Switzerland was for the specialization a too small market and Spirig had to cater to the markets worldwide. The action in Semiconductor manufacturing technologies was at that time the USA. Over the years, as Semicon started to span the world, Spirig followed those markets.
Mr. Spirig holds a MSEE degree (Dipl. Ing. ETH) in electronic and electric engineering from the Swiss Institute of Technology in Zurich. He is also author of one of the first German written books on “Microelectronics”, still used today as an assistant textbook/introduction into basic semiconductor technology.
The company is today (2021) still fully and privately owned. Turn-over or employment figures are not released to the public. Spirig fully owns various companies catering to manufacturing and distributing activities in various countries.
Mr. Spirig has invented and owns today (2021) more than 100 patents in various countries worldwide on varied technologies, which can be divided into:
- Electrolysis-apparatus and -system.
- Clean-room particle shielding technologies (semiconductor, pharmaceutical, atomic plants).
- Electronic signal processing for alarm systems.
- Temperature recording-methods and -materials.
- De-soldering, -tools, -methods and -material for the electronic/electric industries.
- Mechanical gear systems.
Various technologies and patents are used in production, others are licensed out. Some products based on these technologies do have a seizable world-market share.
The product and technology mix is constantly increased by actively investing into start-up operations (seed capital) and/or buying/selling know-how.
SPIRIG is open to inquiries for new start-ups or new technologies.
The Products of SPIRIG Semiconductor Industry
Spirflame® Microflame Technology
The Spirflame® is a patented, powerful microflame generator with an adjustable, electronically stabilized concentrated flame heat output. The SPIRFLAME® Microflame Generator is used for precision.
- soft soldering
- silver soldering
- spot heating
- flaming of plastic surfaces before print
- jewelry applications
- and numbers of more astonishing applications
The Spirflame® Microflame Generator developed and produced exclusively by Ernest Spirig, Switzerland is the only microflame heat source with enough stability and precision to make a Microflame Soldering System possible.
Our fully patented (worldwide) multi-cell electrolyzer finally allows you to easily design and build your own Microflame Soldering Station.
Microflame Solder Systems
The SPIRFLAME® Microflame generator developed and produced exclusively by Ernest Spirig Switzerland is the only microflame heat source with enough stability and precision to make the LA2000SS Microflame Soldering system possible.
Our fully patented (world wide) multi-cell electrolyzer finally allows you to easily design and build your own Microflame Soldering Stations.
The first user friendly, development kit that allows you to design and assemble your own Microflame Soldering Stations. Combined from a selection of standard components/function blocks, a reliable microflame station can be built. Multiple numbers of Electronic Controls, Flame Delivery Cylinders, and solder Wire Feeders can be chained/linked together to solder simultaneously multiple joints.
To solder successfully and uniformly, joint after joint in full production situations, your non contact heat source has to be absolutely stable, easily adjustabel and self stabilizing.
Having more than enough heat, precisely controlled with the ability to solder without making actual contact on your parts allows consistent results, from the beginning to end of your production run.

Celsi® Temperature Indicators
Temperature Recording Labels for :
- low cost temperature monitoring
- reliable way of recording temperature history of any surfaces
- temperature values from 40°C to 260°C
- different sizes and temperature combinations
- easy application
Exceeding the specific temperature rating of an indicator spot (level) will permanently change its original white colour into a dark black one. Not blackened indicator spots have not been exposed above their specific rated temperature level. CelsiStrip® irreversible Temperature Recording Labels permanently and dependably measure and record the maximal temperatures history on any surface, even if it is on a disk brake saddle of a Porsche® HiPe racing car. All items are always fully stocked. In an urgency materials can be „fedexed.. ups‘d .. dhl‘d“ within an hour after receipt of PO.
Certain applications might be solved by our irreversible thermo-sensitive melting crayons CelsiStick® serving temperature ranges from +40 °C to well above +1000 °C.
- Data Logger
- Sensor & Thermoprobes
- Infrared CelsiPick
- Inspection Microscopes
- Timer ECT-1
