Kobold SMO and SMW Displacer Flowmeter / Switch

Kobold SMO and SMW Displacer Flowmeter / Switch operate in the same way as the flowmeter model SMV-… The extra advantage of universal mounting has been added, that is, the direction of flow can be horizontal (model SMW-..) as well as from top to bottom (model SMO-..). This is achieved with a return spring.

Kobold SMN Displacer Flow Switch

Kobold SMN Displacer Flow Switch is used when extremely low flow switch points are required together with minimum pressure loss at high flow rates. The flow switch operates on the well-known float principle. An orifice float with its integral circular magnet moves within a cylindrical flow tube in the direction of flow and against a spring.

The magnetic field of the float activates a reed contact which is mounted on the outside of the instrument in a sliding protective casing. The special construction of the float and flow tube means that only a low flow is required to raise the float and hence activate the reed contact. If the flow rate increases further and the float reaches the top of its travel an additional flow path opens allowing high flow rates without a significant increase in the pressure loss.

Kobold VKP Viscosity Compensated Flowmeter / Switch

Kobold VKP Viscosity operate on a special suspended float principle with cylindrical measuring tube and spring-loaded float with orifice. The float in model VKP-3… has slots moulded on the outside, which protect the instrument from soiling by depositing dirt particles. The danger of the float jamming is thus considerably reduced and soiled liquids with a particle size up to 400 μm can be measured without difficulty. In model VKP-2… a sharp-edged orifice in the float renders the instrument less sensitive to changes in viscosity.

Kobold VKG Viscosity has a spring-loaded float, which slides within a cylindrical measuring tube and has an integral orifice that is believed to be unique. This and other design features mean that it has for the first time become possible to create a flowmeter and switch which fully compensates for viscosity and to a large extent for density even with very low flows.

The float of these patented devices contains permanent magnets which actuate a potential free bistable reed contact mounted outside the flow thus ensuring hermetic separation between the medium and the electrical contact system. The contact is embedded within a height-adjustable plastic housing to prevent damage to the contacts by mechanical action or aggressive atmospheres.

This and other design features mean that it has for the first time become possible to create a flowmeter and switch which fully compensates for viscosity and to a large extent for density even with very low flows.

The contact is embedded within a height-adjustable plastic housing to prevent damage to the contacts by mechanical action or aggressive atmospheres.

As the medium enters the instrument the float rises. Once its magnetic field reaches the contact tips of the reed switch the contact closes. As the flow increases the float rises further until it reaches its stop. This prevents the float from going beyond the contact range of the magnetic operating tube, that is, the contact remains closed thus ensuring bistable switching.

The flow monitor PPS is a flow monitor for nominal pipe sizes greater than NW 32. Fluid flow (regardless of direction) deflects the paddle and over an eccentric moves a magnet holder fitted to a permanent magnet. The magnet actuates non-contacting a dry-reed switch embedded in the switching tube.

The paddle switch is available with N/O contact or N/C contact. The inlet and outlet pipe section should be approximately three times the nominal size of the piping. The flow monitor can be fitted in a standard T piece or reducing pipe. Ideally the flow monitor should be fitted in horizontal piping.

Kobold TSK Flap Flowmeter / Switch

Kobold TSK Flap Flow Meter is suitable for flow measurement of liquid products in pipes. The special advantage is that it can be used for all directions of flow. It shows the current flow rate in volume or mass per unit in time. The meter’s design makes it ideal for processes under difficult and adverse operating conditions. The devices are available with additional electrical equipment for process monitoring and control.

If a medium flows with sufficient velocity through the horizontally or vertically mounted TSK fitting, the paddle will swivel around the axle until the force of the medium and the opposing force of the paddle surface plus the spring tension establish equilibrium. The angular position or the position of equilibrium of the paddle in the measuring compartment is the measure for the flow.

The encapsulated ring-type permanent magnet at the end of the paddle axis transmits this position to the scale and the optional electronic evaluators through the magnet tracking indicator system. This happens safely and without packing glands. The flow rates shown on the scale only apply to the calibrated medium or to a medium with the same physical characteristics.
