About John Moncrieff Glass Level and Flow Indicating

John Moncrieff has developed throughout time into two divisions. We manufacture Industrial glass along with specialising in lighting design and restoration. Our lighting strengths thrive daily and we deliver exceptional fittings and lights for commercial, industrial and for in the home. We have also do many well known TV and Film sets, our flexibility and experience allows us to turn our hand to making period lighting to an exceptional quality for the most demanding clientele.

In 2000 the John Moncrieff Ltd name was re-established; a former employee took over the name and re-established this proud Perth company. The continuous link with the original John Moncrieff is maintained as they had worked continuously since June 1995.

The present John Moncrieff Ltd is a thriving business based in Kinross. It still maintains the tradition of supplying glass for Industrial, scientific and engineering applications, more recently they have developed a highly successful lighting division. The lighting produced is a reaction to the mass production of the Far East, fine hand crafted lighting, built in the UK and built to last.

Moncrieff lighting can now be found in some of the most famous buildings in the UK, from House of Parliament, to the Palace of Justice, as well as being featured on many TV and Film sets, and of course private homes, hotels, pub and clubs across the land, and overseas. We look forward to receiving your inquiries in the future, or if you need any advice, we are always open and willing to help.

Our range of Flow Indicators come with a choice of stainless steel, carbon steel and gun metal bodies, suit industrial applications with working temperatures up to 250ºC and working pressures up to 16 bar for the standard range and 40 bar for the high pressure range. We are also able to offer Flow Indicator units using more specialized materials such as duplex steel, aluminium bronze and quartz glass.

  • Style P
    • This design has a plain spout cast in the body. It is used to check for the presence of a liquid where there is intermittent flow, partially filled lines or entrained air. It can be used in vertical or horizontal lines. The integral drip lip makes it ideal for leak detection.
  • Style F
    • With the flap and easy to read scale the style F sight flow indicator is used to check the flow rate of a liquid in a pipeline. It can be used in vertical or horizontal lines and is ideal as a plant safety device where you need to maintain a constant flow, for example in lubricating or cooling systems.
  • Style S
    • This model can be mounted in any pipeline position, and will operate over a wide flow range. With the highly visible PTFE spinner, the Style S is suitable for clear and cloudy liquids.
  • Style T
    • The style T sight glass has a plain straight through borosilicate glass tube with stainless steel flanged ends and is used to check for the presence of a liquid where there is intermittent flow, partially filled lines or entrained air. It can be used in vertical or horizontal lines.
  • Style W
    • This model is designed to provide a window for viewing the contents of a vessel or tank. Normally these are welded to the tank, but can be supplied suitable for bolting to a vessel or a pipe flange if required. The windows are either toughened soda lime or toughened borosilicate glass to suit the contents of the vessel.
  • Vista Ball
    • The Vista ‘Ball’ is a single sided stainless steel indicator that can be used on pipe sizes from 8mm to 40mm (1?4” to 1 1?2”). The white PTFE ball rises when flow starts and is clearly visible from distances. The indicator must be installed horizontally with the glass dome positioned upwards.
  • Vista Spinner
    • The Vista ‘Spinner’ is a single sided gunmetal indicator that can be used on pipe sizes from 8mm to 25mm (1?4” to 1”). The spinner starts to rotate when flow starts and is clearly visible from distances. The design offers low pressure losses and is suitable for installation in both horizontal and vertical pipework.

  • Steam Level Gauge
    • The Reflex glass level gauge provides maximum operator protection while displaying a clear indication of the liquid level for low pressure applications. The Reflex glass level gauge provides maximum operator protection while displaying a clear indication of the liquid level for low pressure applications. Above 22bar, Transparent glass level gauges are used, fitted with extra thick micas to protect the glass.
    • These gauges can be fitted with illuminators, a useful option particularly in poorly lit areas. For high pressure applications, Klinger Bi-colour glass level gauges are available with illuminators to give either a red and green or black and white indication, particularly useful for remote viewing.
  • Process Level Gauge
    • John Moncrieff Ltd were one of the innovators of the Reflex level gauge and the group has since developed into a world market leader in glass level gauge technology. Process Level Gauges are available in the range ANSI Class 150 to ANSI Class 1500, it is particularly suited for low pressure steam boilers, gas liquefaction plants, reactors or storage vessels.
  • Magnetic Gauge
    • Used throughout the world within a vast range of industries the range of Magnetic Level Gauges is particularly suited to applications where hazardous liquids or gases are in use. All of these instruments are made to order and our engineers will provide expert guidance on the design and manufacture of the Magnetic Level Gauges for specific applications.
  • Tubular Level Gauge
    • Tubular level gauges, are a cost-effective method of visual liquid level indication for tanks operating at low pressures. A basic standard oil tank level gauge consists of a toughened continuous section of borosilicate glass tube which is connected at both the top and bottom to an isolation valve.
    • The connection between the valve and glass is sealed by means of a rubber gasket contained within a union on the valve. The isolation valves used on this type of instrument are available either as screwed with union connection BSP or NPT, or they can be flanged to your request.
