STAHL Explosion Hazard Systems

STAHL Explosion Hazard Systems has had a major impact in the sector of explosion protection. Safety standards create a challenge for us to not only comply but to set new standards of our own.

About STAHL Explosion Hazard Systems

The R. STAHL brand is synonymous with the very highest quality and demanding solutions. Your safety is our reality. The product range within R. STAHL is vast and continually being reviewed and expanded as necessary. The four product areas that we cover are Switchgear, Automation, Lighting, and System Solutions.

We have an extensive network of local agents working closely with our regional center of excellence based in DAFZA, Dubai, UAE. From our regional office, our agency network reaches out across Qatar, Kuwait, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain with sub-distributors across the Middle East region. R. STAHL Gulf, is strategically positioned to serve regional projects and applications in oil and gas, pharmaceutical, marine, and industrial processing.

The Products of STAHL Explosion Hazard Systems

Digital I/O modules

Versatile modules for digital signals in hazardous locations The digital I/O modules (DIOM) are suitable for connecting up to 16 intrinsically safe digital signals. The channels can be used in pairs as inputs for contacts or proximity switches, or as outputs for low-power solenoid valves or pilot lights. In addition, frequency/counter inputs are available with or without rotation direction recognition.

The digital I/O modules (DIOM) can be used to connect up to 16 intrinsically safe digital signals. All channels can be used in pairs as inputs for passive contacts or NAMUR proximity switches (EN 60947-5-6) or as outputs for low-power solenoid valves or I.S. pilot lights.

Up to eight inputs can be used as frequency inputs/counters up to 20 kHz, and up to four inputs can be used in the “Rotation direction recognition” and “Forward/backward counter” operating modes. The I.S. inputs/outputs are short-circuit proof and galvanically isolated from the system.

A blue LED and diagnostic messages provide early warnings that maintenance is required in order to avoid system downtime. The Zone 1 and Class I Div.1 versions have additional LEDs for each channel to indicate any line faults and the switching state.

*Versatile: Channels can be used in pairs as input or output

  • Versions with Ex ia intrinsically safe inputs/outputs for installation in Zone 1, 2 and Class I Div.1, 2
  • Hot-swappable: Can be replaced while the system is in operation in explosive atmospheres

Analogue I/O modules

Universal modules for analog inputs and outputs (AIOM) in hazardous locations Analog input? Analog output? With R. STAHL’s universal modules (analog I/O modules, or AIOM for short), anything is possible: Each of the eight channels can be used individually as either an input or an output, transmitting the data in both directions to connected HART field devices. The inputs/outputs for 0/4 to 20 mA and HART are “ia” intrinsically safe and short-circuit proof.

HART analog universal modules can be used to connect up to eight intrinsically safe analog signals (0/4 to 20 mA) to the IS1+ remote I/O system. Digital communication with connected field devices can take place in both directions using the HART protocol. Each channel can be used as an input for connecting two-, three- or four-wire transmitters, or as an output for connecting positioners or indicators. The I.S. inputs/outputs are short-circuit proof and galvanically isolated from the system.

A blue LED and diagnostic messages provide early warnings that maintenance is required to avoid system downtime. The Zone 1 and Class I Div.1 versions have additional LEDs for each channel to indicate any line faults.

  • Multi-functional: Each channel can be used individually as an input or an output
  • Versions with Ex ia intrinsically safe inputs/outputs for installation in Zone 1, 2 and Class I Div.1, 2
  • Hot-swappable: Can be replaced while the system is in operation in explosive atmospheres

Digital output modules

Efficient modules for digital output signals in hazardous locations R. STAHL’s digital output modules (DOM) are suitable for connecting up to eight intrinsically safe solenoid valves or pilot lights. The outputs are designed for operating various solenoid valves and in certain configurations are also suitable for SIL 2 output shutdown. Relay outputs for non-I.S. signals or integrated pilot solenoid valves also feature in the range.

Digital output modules (DOM) can be used to operate four or eight intrinsically safe solenoids, hydraulic valves, and indicator elements. The Ex ia/ib intrinsically safe output characteristics are optimally configured for a wide range of solenoid valves. An I.S. control input for the Plant-Stop switch (IEC 61508 up to SIL 2) is also available for the Zone 1 and Class I Div.1 versions.

The I.S. outputs are short-circuit proof and galvanically isolated from the system. A blue LED and diagnostic messages provide early warnings that maintenance is required to avoid system downtime. The Zone 1 and Class I Div.1 versions have additional LEDs for each channel to indicate any line faults and the switching state.

In addition, there are versions with relay outputs for non-I.S. solenoid valves and with eight integrated pilot solenoid valves for direct pneumatic connection.

  • Efficient: Four or eight channels for virtually all solenoid valves (I.S., explosionproof), or with integrated pneumatics outputs intrinsically safe, Ex eb/non-incendive or pneumatics for installation in Zone 1, 2 and Class I Div.1, 2 – separate control input for SIL 2 plant-stop.
  • Hot-swappable: Can be replaced while the system is in operation in an explosive atmosphere
