A thermocouple is an electrical device used as a sensor for temperature measurement. This device senses low to high temperatures in the form of voltage changes and displays the temperature digitally by calculating the voltage changes. It was discovered in 1821 by Thomas Seeback and thus has been serving the function since then. The self-powered thermocouple can measure temperatures between -300 and 4000F.

However, this range varies according to different types of thermocouples. The advanced digital thermocouple comes in different styles. This styling varies from simple wires to thermocouples with probes and beaded wire thermocouples. Thermocouple differs from other temperature-sensing devices in their constituency and applications. They are used mostly for high-temperature measurements in industries whereas other sensors like a thermometer are rarely used commercially.

Description Of K type thermocouple K type thermocouple

K-type thermocouple is also commonly referred to as the nickel-chromium/ nickel-silicon thermocouple. Chinese thermocouple factory often calls it WRN thermocouple. It is a type of industrial temperature sensor that can measure high temperatures at a low price cost. The k-type thermocouple probe is one of the most widely used thermocouples in industrial automation control.

A K-type thermocouple is a subtype of the base metal category. The metals of this thermocouple are nickel-chromium or nickel-alum. the nominal chemical composition is: Ni: Cr = 90: 10, and the anode material is nickel-silicon alloy, the nominal chemical composition is: Ni: Si = 97: 3. It is one of the most commonly used thermocouples with cheap cost, greater accuracy and reliability, and a wide operating temperature range. This range lies between -200 ? and 1000 ?. Because nickel-chromium/nickel-silicon alloy has good high-temperature oxidation resistance, it can be used in oxidizing or neutral media.

Therefore, this K-type thermocouple can measure a high temperature of 1000 ° C for a long time and 1200 ° C in a short time. The average accuracy is almost 75% whereas the risk factors for any error are only 0.4%. This gives it better reliability with a low cost of the metals thus K type thermocouple is used commonly in industries and homes.

However, k type thermocouple cannot be used in fluids with reducing property; otherwise, it will be corroded and damaged quickly. Although its measurement accuracy is slightly lower, it can fully meet the requirements of industrial temperature measurement,

Feature Of K type thermocouple K type thermocouple

  • Good oxidation resistance when fluids temperature is below 1000 ?.
  • It is much cheaper than the S-type thermocouple
  • Good repeatability
  • K thermocouple has good sensitivity
  • Perfect linearity
