SkimOil First Response Oil Skimming Systems At SkimOil we are often called on to provide spill response equipment for Spill Plans (SPCC). We are in the Oil Skimmer business however we don’t often work spills, that is usually left to the specialized contractors that have trucks and boatloads of equipment and personnel standing by ready for response work.

First response-ability and requirements are deadly important and even vital for minimizing environmental damage and the possibility of HUGE fines and costs if spills do get out of control. No one wants to read about their spill in the paper or see it on the 6:00 news.

Most of our work is in and for the industrial world where oil is spilled, mixed, dripped, dropped, leaked/ lost, and even dumped sometimes too regularly as part of the process or an accidental release. Stuff happens and Oil happens. SkimOil can provide complete turn-key systems that include EVERYTHING needed for you to go out and start skimming oil as a first response.

You are only as good as your preparation, so be prepared. Have everything in place, every fitting, every connector, every hone that is part of your system. If it’s not dedicated equipment you can’t be sure it’s there and operable. Operators too have to be ready, and available, with the right safety equipment, skimming equipment, and supplies AND training and exercising with the equipment at 2 in the afternoon instead of learning it at 2 in the morning with rain.

Floating weir skimmers(FWS) are floating surface suction devices. Our FWS is automatically self-adjusting and flow-controlled, meaning that you can adjust the cut or skim coming off the surface (from 1/32″ to 1.5″) by simply adjusting your pump flow rate. The FWS works with any pump that can pull suction and has only one moving part, the hinged weir.

The FWS is available in ABS plastic, which is tough, or in stainless steel (As Shown Above). The standard FWS comes in 4 sizes from 2 gpm to 400 gpm flow rates. They all work the same. The FWS is a surface skimmer that is going to give you a well-controlled tool for draining an area from the top down by skimming off the surface. The FWS will give you a good amount of water with the oil if you are skimming at or near oil water interface.

The FWS can be scaled up in size easily and is the platform for our floating SBR decanters. This skimmer is fast, light, and easy to move around and can be easily and finely controlled with our FWS/CS –controller system with extension poles which are a suction pole with heads, allowing you to almost use it like a vac (pictured right). The FWS is rugged, durable industrial equipment and will last until you wreck it.

The FWS is a solid workhorse type of oil skimmer, ABS plastic is almost always in stock. Stainless versions are usually built to order in 2-4 weeks ARO, but we do have some stainless FWS skimmers in stock at present.
