The Products of Titan Flowmeters

Titan offers complete liquid flow control solutions and highly adaptive designs for a wide range of processes and applications using the latest flow technologies, including Ultrasonic, Radial Flow turbines, and Positive Displacement flow devices. From pubs and food production to pharmaceuticals and oil and gas applications, agriculture, and medicine, our precision flow meters and instruments cover all liquid measurement requirements, including batch control systems, chemical additive dosing, and low flow monitoring.

Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Titan’s range of inline ultrasonic flow meters is a genuine breakthrough in flowmeter technology. Utilizing our patented ‘time-of-flight’ ultrasonic technology, the flow measurement devices can operate with excellent accuracy over wide liquid flow ranges. Work on developing a viable, accurate ultrasonic meter began in 2001 with a corporate decision to develop the best non-invasive small bore flow meter in the world as part of a long-term strategic plan.

One of the foremost fluid engineering establishments (The Cranfield Institute of Technology) was commissioned to develop the device in collaboration with our R&D team at Titan. The resulting patented ultrasonic technology has led to an expanding line of Atrato ultrasonic flowmeters which have the adaptability to provide solutions for several OEM issues. Titan’s development of unique algorithms and techniques has resulted in a new generation of ultrasonic flowmeters that work well at low flow and deliver accurate measurements within a wide range of industrial processes.

Titan’s Range of Oval Gear Flow Meters

Titan’s oval gear (OG) range of flow meters operates on the basic positive displacement technique in that they take a discrete volume of liquid and pass it from the inlet to the outlet without loss or slippage. By nature, these devices perform better at higher viscosities as the increasing fluid thickness reduces the leakage rate further and extends the useful operating range to lower flow rates. The oval gear design allows these flowmeters to operate with shallow differential pressure, only millimeters of the head in some cases.

At the heart of the Titan oval gear flowmeter range is a pair of toothed oval gears, one of which contains PTFE-coated magnets. The gears rotate freely on robust bearings. Rotation is detected through the chamber wall by a Hall Effect detector, Namur sensor, or reed switch, which gives a number of pulses per liter passed.

Titan’s oval gear sensors are very suitable for measuring oils, although some models are manufactured specifically for corrosive media, being made from totally non-metallic plastic and ceramic components.

Turbine Flowmeters

Titan’s small turbine flowmeter range uses a radial flow principle based on the Pelton wheel technique. This well-proven method is the ideal way of measuring low rates of flow of low-viscosity liquids.

For these mini flowmeters, a jet of fluid is directed at a turbine that is mounted on robust low-friction sapphire bearings. The geometry of the turbine and the fluid chamber ensures that the rotational speed of the rotor is proportional to the flow rate through the device.

The use of this radial arrangement allows more energy to be imparted into the turbine, so the bearing drag is far less important. Furthermore, because more energy is available the bearings themselves can be a lot stronger increasing the life of the flowmeter. For larger flows, some of the liquid can bypass the turbine chamber, which then behaves as a “shunt” to the metered fluid. Accuracy is still maintained and the output remains linear.
