Crosby HL High Capacity, Flanged Steel Direct Spring Valve

Features & Benefits:

  • The guide is held in place using the method employed by all the leading high-pressure safety valve manufacturers, thus eliminating the age-old industry problem of the guide-to-body threads corroding in service, which can require major repairs.
  • The HL valve has a full nozzle that threads into the body, making it easy to remove and less expensive to repair should it be damaged in service. The full nozzle is designed with spanner wrench slots for easy removal and installation.
  • An external blowdown adjustment makes final minor blowdown adjustments in the field very easy and minimizes the testing time.
  • The HL’s Flexi-Disc®, which is more common in high-pressure safety valves, offers improved seat tightness.
  • The specially designed cover and overlap collar form a unique back pressure chamber for improved blowdown and prevent steam from heating the spring, which might affect set pressure.
  • The built-in mechanical lift stop prevents over lift and ensures stability during the relieving cycle.

Crosby Style JQ Pressure Relief Device

Designed in collaboration with the Chlorine Institute, Inc. the Crosby JQ is designed with internal parts completely isolated from corrosive fluids and environments. The Crosby Style JQ pressure relief device was designed to provide dependable overpressure protection for vessels used for the transportation and storage of chlorine and other dangerous commodities.

Crosby Relief Valves
Crosby Style JQ Pressure Relief Device

It is ideally suited for such service, being completely sealed from hazardous fluids and corrosive environments until the time of an overpressure event. Diaphragm seals at both the inlet and outlet of the Crosby JQ effectively prevent the corrosion of internal working parts while also preventing the escape of fugitive emissions. These unique valves are in use worldwide on railroad tank cars, barges, and on stationary vessels, adding a measure of reliability and a level of safety beyond that possible with a conventional pressure relief valve.

The JQ is available in two inlet sizes, 1-1/2″ and 4″. The pressure limit for 1-1/2″ size is 450 psi, and for the 4″ size, 375 psi. The 1-1/2″ device is equipped with a special Chlorine Institute-approved inlet flange and metal-to-metal seat. A 1-1/2″ 300 lb ANSI raised face flange adapter is available as an option as is an elastomer O-ring seat for exceptional tightness. The 4″ device has a standard 4″ 300 lb ANSI large tongue-faced inlet flange and metal seat (a raised-face flange is available as an option).

Features and Benefits

  • Designed in collaboration with the Chlorine Institute, Inc. to eliminate detrimental corrosive effects on valve parts which could render the valves inoperable.
  • Association of American Railroad Approval Nos. SRD-989034 and SRD-989035.

Crosby Style PVR Pressure/Vacuum Pressure Relief Valve

Designed for the food & beverage and pharmaceutical industries, the PVR relieves excess air or gas pressure, relieves excess liquid pressure in the absence of air or gas blanketing, and prevents the formation of a vacuum that could cause the vessel to buckle due to external pressure.

Crosby Relief Valves
Crosby Style PVR PressureVacuum Pressure Relief Valve

Features & Benefits:

The Crosby Style PVR pressure/vacuum relief valve is a sanitary valve designed specifically for the brewing, beverage, food processing and pharmaceutical industries. This valve provides overpressure protection in three modes of self-actuated operation:

  1. Relieves excess air or gas pressure;
  2. Relieves excess liquid pressure in the absence of air or gas blanketing; and
  3. Designed to prevent the formation of a vacuum that could cause the vessel to buckle.

The pressure/vacuum relief valve is manufactured in accordance with ASME Code Section VIII requirements. Valve capacities on compressible fluid are certified by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. The valve body and all internal parts are designed to operate after exposure to process fluids and to withstand direct flushing and cleansing of sterilizing agents, caustics, water or steam.

Further, the configuration of each valve piece permits complete drainage after valve operation and/or flushing, and minimizes crevices which might trap contaminants or promote freezing in cold environments.

Crosby’s PVR is a versatile design featuring reliable and trouble-free operation. The valve set pressure may be adjusted by the stainless steel adjusting bolt which is also the pressure relief disc guide. The pressure relief disc in turn guides the vacuum disc and spring. Vacuum relief set pressure is pre-set at the factory and is non-adjustable. The cap is sealed with a lead seal to prevent tampering. Tight shut-off is provided by standard Viton® O-ring seats on both discs. All valve materials are corrosion resistant and all exposed surface finishes are controlled to enhance the sanitary features of the valve.
