About Deckma Hamburg
DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH is a well established company, supplying Oil-in-Water Monitors and Systems to the marine and industrial markets since the early 1970’s. The Managing Director, Mr. Günther Schulze, founded the company as a representation office in Germany for companies like Bailey Meters, Metritape, Tanksystem and Bristol Babcock Ltd. DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH has been involved in sales, service, engineering and development of 15 ppm Bilge Alarm Monitors and Tanker Deballasting Systems from the beginning of the MARPOL regulation 73/78 for pollution prevention equipment on board of ships.
Since the early 1980’s DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH introduced the wellknown OCD-Series of 15 ppm Bilge Alarm Monitors. More than 13.500 OCD-Bilge Alarm Monitors have been sold under the name DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH, mainly to Separator Manufacturers. In the industrial field, DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH developed “Turnkey Monitoring Systems” for the control of waste water in a variety of applications.
Demands for better measuring technique required a complete new development. In 1996 DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH launched an all new Oil-in-Water Monitor, the “OMD-7 Industrial Monitor” capable of distinguishing between the different characteristics of Oil particles, Solids particles and Water Turbidity on a continuous basis. This was the beginning of a complete new Series of Oil-in-Water Monitors – the OMD-Series. The latest version of 15ppm Bilge Alarms “OMD-24 / OMD-2008” has been launched in the market by the second half of 2012. This unit meets the latest IMO Resolution MEPC. 107(49)
Nowadays, DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH is a flexible and innovative enterprise with own Research- and Development Department, Sales and Marketing, Service and Engineering as well as manufacturing facilities for Monitors and Systems. Personal involvement of the Managing Director, the Directors and Employees are the strength of the company. A new factory located in Hamburg with 1000 m² floor space was opened in 2001 to cope with the continued business expansion, especially for the Bilge Alarm Monitor Sector.
Deckma Hamburg GmbH is the market leader of 15ppm Bilge Alarms. Up to now more than 45.000 OMD Bilge Alarms have been supplied mainly to Oily Water Separator Manufacturers worldwide.

Deckma Hamburg Products
DECKMA HAMBURG GmbH is a well established company, supplying oil-in-water monitors and systems to the marine and industrial markets since the early 1970’s.
In addition to a range of monitors to conform to the IMO-regulations for shipboard discharge of oily water we also design and manufacture systems for such applications as: Boiler Condensate, Process Water, Cooling Water and General Effluent Discharge from Power Stations, Chemical Plants, Tank Farms and Offshore Platforms.
Industrial applications are such that the supply of a standard monitor is invariably insufficient to cope with process conditions. Therefore we ask for our application Questionnaire to be completed. This enables us to tailor a system to your exact requirements and provide something that will prove reliable and as maintenance free as possible. We would be happy to discuss any requirements you might have for our systems and, on receipt of more technical information would provide budget prices and outlines.
OMD-24 Bilge Alarm
The OMD-24 Bilge Alarm Unit has been designed specifically for use in conjunction with 15 ppm oil-water separator units and has a specification and performance which exceeds the requirements of the International Maritime Organization specifications for 15ppm Bilge Alarms contained in Resolution MEPC. 107 (49).
The unit is supplied with 2 works-adjusted alarms at 15 ppm. Other set points (10 ppm or 5 ppm) are possible and can be adjusted on site at any time by using the buttons at the front panel. If an alarm set point is exceed, the alarms are visible at the front panel and the appropriate relays are switched.

In case of malfunction the System LED at the front panel will change from blinking green to permanent red. For the data logging function the unit requires an status input from the separator. Optionally a 0(4) – 20 mA (equal to 0 – 30 ppm) signal output is available for driving a recorder or external meter.
The OMD-24 EV variant is different from the standard OMD-24 in that it has an electrically operated switchover valve for clean water usage instead of the
manually operated valves. The electric valve allows remote control for flushing the measuring cell. The OMD-24 EV monitor will switch to alarm condition, but will continue to display the measurement result, whenever the valve is set to
OMD-2008 Bilge Alarm Units
The OMD-2008 Series Bilge Alarm Units have been designed specifically for use in conjunction with 15 ppm oil-water separator units and have a specification and performance which exceeds the requirements of the International Maritime Organization IMO specifications for 15 ppm Bilge Alarms contained in Resolution MEPC.107 (49).
The units are supplied with 2 works-adjusted alarms at 15 ppm. Set points from 1 ppm to 15 ppm are possible and can be adjusted on site at any time by using the buttons at the
front panel.
If an alarm set point is exceeded, the alarms are visible at the front panel and the appropriate relays are switched. In case of malfunction the “SYS LED” at the front panel will change from blinking green to permanent red. For the data logging function, the unit requires a status input from the separator.
A 0(4) – 20 mA signal output (equal to 0 – 30 ppm) is available for driving a recorder or external meter.
By request the OMD-2008 Series are also available with 5 ppm alarm set point. Additionally, instrument versions equipped with a Measuring Cell Cleaning Unit or an Automatic Cell Cleaning Device are available.
OMD-2008 Series generally consist of a Computer Unit, a Measuring Cell, and further equipment (e.g. Valve Assembly, EV Valve, Automatic Cell Cleaning Device, and EV Flow Control). The Computer Units contain the display PCB with the data logger and the terminals for external connections.
The Measuring Cell is built out of an anodized all-aluminum body with inlet and outlet block made from stainless steel. This rugged cell contains optics and electronics and is connected with the Computer Unit via a plugged data cable. The Measuring Cell should be positioned vertical.
All OMD-2008 units are mounted onto stainless supports and can be mounted on wall or as bulkhead installation.
The OMD-2008 Series should be located as close as possible to the oily water separator to minimize response delays. According MEPC.107(49) the layout of the installation should be arranged so that the overall response time (including the response time of the 15 ppm Bilge Alarm, which is less than 5 sec.) between an effluent discharge from the 15 ppm Bilge Separator exceeding 15 ppm, and the operation of the Automatic Stopping Device preventing overboard discharge, should be as short as possible and in any case not more than 20 s.
Mount the OMD-2008 Series instrument by means of M6 or M8 screws on to a rigid vertical surface or frame and preferably with the display panel of the monitor at user convenience. For service and maintenance sufficient space to all sides should be available.

OMD-2008 EV FC MCU with Flow Control
The OMD-2008 EV FC MCU is equipped with a Flow Sensor. The Flow Sensor is positioned in the Drain line of the Measuring Cell.
If the flow rate through the Measuring Cell is too low, or if the sample is not flowing at all, the Instrument will go to Alarm condition and issue a “Status: Flow?” message. According to MEPC.107(49) the 15ppm Bilge Alarm has to be provided with a representative sample, i.e. the operator of the instrument is responsible to maintain a proper sample flow through the instrument. The recommended sample flow rate for Deckma instruments is approx. 2 Liters per Minute. At this flow rate, with a common setup of separator and 15ppm Bilge Alarm, it is easily possible to reliably operate the instrument, and to ensure the required short reaction time to changes in the oil content of the effluent water.
The instrument does not know about the sample stream flow rate. If circumstances lead to interruptions of the sample flow, or if the sample flow is stopped completely, the portion of the sample that is in the sample glass tube will be measured continuously. The instrument will display the same measurement result for a long time, but it may fail to adequately react to changes in the overboard discharge water oil content. For many years the OMD series instruments have had a dedicated input to connect a flow switch to monitor the sample flow rate.
However, not many installation have been made with an additional flow switch. A more easy solution had to be found, a solution that does not require additional pipework, or electrical work, on site. The new OMD-2008 EV FC MCU version of the OMD-2008 instrument come with a flow sensor that measures the sample flow rate, and automatically sets the instrument into alarm condition, if a sufficient flow rate is not maintained.

Constructed to make accidental flow interruptions, incorrectly closed valves, and a missing sample stream harmless events that do not lead to unlawful discharge, the OMD-2008 EV FC MCU also makes manipulation and tinkering with the instrument setup much less rewarding. Additionally for the OMD-2008 EV FC MCU instruments a Manual Cleaning Unit (MCU) is available. This system allows to quickly clean the sample glass tube without having to open the Measuring Cell. With the MCU maintenance of the system becomes very easy, ensuring high reliability and reduced maintenance workload.
