Centrally located in Bosque County, Texas, the PETOL™ GEARENCH manufacturing facilities are about one mile south of Clifton, Texas on State Highway 6.

PETOL GEARENCH was founded in Houston, Texas in 1927 as GEARENCH Manufacturing Company, by J.A. Peterson and C.E. “Pat” Olsen. The first patented product, the Gearench, was called The Greatest Utility Wrench on the Market. From this original tool, the company has grown and developed over 40 product lines for use in various areas of the oil field. Tools have also been developed for water well and trenchless technology drilling, mining, power generation utilities, and many other vital industries.

In October of 1978, Chester Posey purchased PETOL GEARENCH, including facilities in Houston and Clifton, Texas. Since that time Gearench has grown from a school building (the old Clifton College) to an 87,000+ sq. ft. production facility.

PETOL GEARENCH has been ISO 9001 certified since 1995 and maintains a quality system compliant with the most current standard. PETOL GEARENCH also became an API Spec 8C licensed manufacturer in 2004.

BELT TONG™ Strap Wrench

The PETOL™ SURGRIP™ BELT TONG™ Strap Wrench utilizes a lightweight composite strap to provide features that are truly amazing. The strap is actually stronger than chain – and you don’t have to worry about rust or corrosion. While torque will vary according to diameter, it can deliver up to 165,600 ft.-lbs. of torque. One of the most important features of the strap is that it will not come apart, even when it’s broken. Although all tools are safe when used properly, this feature offers added safety in that there are no “flying” parts if the BELT TONG strap wrench is over-torqued.

The BELT TONG strap wrench is available in seven sizes with composite straps to accommodate pipe sizes from 5″ to 72″ O.D.

The PETOL BELT TONG strap wrench is extremely easy to use. The lightweight strap, an adjustable hanger that keeps the wrench in perfect balance for easy application and ratcheting, and a pin that quickly latches and unlatches the strap, combine to make operating the wrench a snap. In fact, it’s so easy only two rig personnel are required.

Each BELT TONG strap wrench comes equipped with two PETOL Diamond Point Inserts which can be quickly changed out when necessary. The SCT1020, SCT1020H, SCT1838 and SCT2036 can be adjusted to grip the main body of the pipe or the pipe coupling.
