The Products of Wichita Clutch Air Brake

AirMakks SSB Brakes

The AirMaKKs SSB is designed to provide low speed braking assistance in applications including conveyors, cranes and drawworks where they serve as a main brake that provides both parking and E-stop braking functions.

AirMaKKs SSB models utilize the basic, easy-to-maintain, pin-style, modular design of AquaMaKKs including the brake housing with torque plates installed instead of water jackets. Models are available in the 19, 25, 36 & 48-inch AquaMaKKs sizes.

Products Features

  • Air cooled, spring-set air tube release high torque brake
  • Marine version designed to withstand the highly corrosive environment of an offshore deck area where sea spray and direct seawater splash is prevalent
  • Three-part epoxy marine grade paint and engineered corrosion resistant coatings for added protection on offshore rig applications
  • Utilizes basic AquaMakks brake case with torque plates installed instead of water jackets
  • Optional Stainless Steel torque plates can be added to the AirMaKKs SSB Brakes for marine deck applications where sea spray and direct seawater splash are prevalent.
  • Available in the 19,25, 36 & 48 inch sizes

CCB – Combination Clutch/Brake

For start/stop cyclic applications. The CCB consists of an air-applied clutch and a spring applied / air-release brake combined in one unit. They are designed for dry running only.

Product Features

  • Provides compact mounting in cyclic applications
  • A single airtube actuates both the single plate clutch and the single plate brake.
  • Three types of drive plate mountings available to suit various cyclic applications.
  • Fixing to the shaft may be with keyway or shrink disc mounting.

LIB – Low Interia Clutch

For high cyclic and general stopping and holding duties. The LIB is designed for end-shaft or through-shaft mounting. Air connections are stationary. For dry use only.

Product Features

  • Start/Stop parts have a low inertia which,
    • Reduces deceleration times and allows more cycles per minute
    • Reduces heat generated during dynamic braking conditions.
  • Air applied brake with full circle friction discs
  • Available in 1,2,3 or 4 plate designs to suit torque, heat, response and space requirements.

LI/SSB – Low Inertia Spring Set Brake

‘Fail to safety’ design for high cyclic and general stopping and holding duties. The LI/SSB is designed for end-shaft or through-shaft mounting.

    • Reduce deceleration times and allows more cycles per minute
    • Reduce heat generated during dynamic braking conditions.
  • Spring applied/ air release brake with full circle friction discs
  • Available in 1,2,3 or 4 plate designs and three spring ratings are available to suit individual application requirements for suit torque, heat, response and space.
  • Air connections are non-rotating. For dry use only.

Mistral II Tension Brake

The new Mistral II pneumatic tension brake is the latest development in the family of innovative braking solutions from Wichita Clutch. The compact, high-performance, and versatile brake is designed to meet the tensioning requirements of today’s advanced machine designs.

Based on the successful original Mistral brake, the new brake design addresses customer requests for an up-to-date solution that does not compromise the industry-leading performance of the legacy model. Popular Mistral braking technology is widely used in the global paper and corrugating industry.

Model LKB Brakes

The Model LKB is a spring-set, air or hydraulic-released brake. This design offers a wide range of torque capacities and release pressures, with total attention given to maximizing ventilation for dissipating large thermal loads. This is a dry, disc-type application.

Product Features

  • Longer lining life
  • Stable friction coefficients
  • Lower maintenance costs
  • Contributes lowest possible inertia to the system that must be started and stopped

Model LKT Clutch or Brake

The Model LKT clutch or brake contains identical features to the Model LK units with the exception being the cylinder piston arrangement. Whereas the Model LK unit has a full cylinder covering its entire outboard end, the Model LKT has a doughnut-type cylinder which allows it to be mounted in a through-shaft arrangement as an air set brake.

The design incorporates extremely low driven inertia and the quickest response with minimal air consumption of any clutch or brake available. It is particularly suited to those applications requiring frequent cycling and long life such as is found in metal forming or indexing applications.

Product Features

  • Full cylinder covering its entire outboard end
  • Doughnut-type cylinder which allows it to be mounted in a through-shaft arrangement as an air set brake
  • Mounted end-shaft as a clutch

‘Modevo’ Modular Tension Brake

  • For light to medium tensioning applications.
  • For dry operation only.
  • Modular design for maximum flexibility of operation
  • Disc specially designed for good heat dissipation at low and high speeds
  • Fan cooling is optional for even higher heat capacity
  • The brake module is common to all disc sizes and contains two sets of air-applied rolling diaphragm actuators.
  • Three actuator sizes coupled with either standard or low-coefficient friction pads give a wide range of flexibility and selection

Motor Brakes

If you require failsafe protection for your process equipment, look at Wichita’s line of spring-set motor brakes. Whether your application requires C-face mounting to the electric motor or foot mounting next to the electric motor. Wichita Clutch has the brake to solve your application problem.
