Philmac – Metric Tapping Saddles

PN16-rated saddles for long-term, high-pressure performance on metric poly pipe

The Philmac range of metric tapping saddles provides the perfect solution to the problem of making an offtake from the metric poly pipe.

Available in a wide range of sizes and thread offtakes and in addition with both galvanized and SS316 nuts and bolts (Sizes 50mm x 3/4? to 63mm x 1? have SS304 nuts and bolts and are not fitted with a reinforcing ring). The saddle is made from high-grade polypropylene and also has a specially enlarged seal to provide a high degree of seal compression on the pipe. This enables the saddle to perform to PN16 pressure rating for long-term stress-free offtakes on Metric poly pipe.

The Philmac Metric Tapping Saddle is a fitting engineered for use above or below ground for the transfer of fluids; including water, chemicals, or slurries, frequently encountered in the utilities, mining, or irrigation industries.

Features of Metric Tapping Saddles:

  • PN16 pressure rating. Complies to draft specification AS 4129, “Fittings for PE Pipes for pressure applications”.
  • Nitrile sealing gasket for excellent sealing performance and chemical resistance.
  • Suitable for contact with potable water – complied with AS3855 and AS40210 (int).
  • High grade polypropylene body selected for its tough, high impact, lightweight, and durable properties.
  • Stainless steel reinforcing rings on threaded branches.
  • Bolt clips to facilitate easy assembly.
  • Bolt hole guides to assist bolt insertion.
  • Hexagon molding to prevent bolt turning during assembly.
  • We were supplied with either Class 316 Stainless Steel (50 x 3/4″ to 63 x 1″ have Class 304 Stainless Steel nuts & bolts and do not have a reinforcing ring) or Zinc electroplated steel nuts and bolts.

Installation of Metric Tapping Saddles:

  • Use
It can be used to fit a wide range of pipes from PN6.3 to PN16 including MDPE, HDPE, PP, or ABS that have metric external diameter dimensions.
  • Pre Assembly
Select the branch off-take position, clean the pipe, ensure easy access, and mark the hole. Place saddle upper body and align outlet branch with marked hole.
  • Assembly
Place the saddle’s lower body over the pipe. Ensure the thread of bolts is clean before placing it in the saddle. Tighten all bolts alternately around the saddle. ensure the saddle off-take hole stays in alignment with the marked hole. Drill a suitable hole through the orifice of the saddle with the boring tool. Ensure that the threads and gasket are not damaged.
  • Disassembly
Loosen and detach all bolts around the saddle.
    Note:
    1. Philmac recommends the use of PTFE tape on BSP threads to ensure a positive seal.
    2. Philmac uses 316 high-class Stainless Steel nuts and bolts. Inherent in the nature of all Stainless Steel nuts and bolts is that they can fuse following installation. Lubrication of threads before installation may help to prevent this from occurring.
